Vehicle Accident
On September 28, 2014, at 11:25 A.M., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on 690th Street and Hamburg Road. A 2002 Chevy Tahoe owned and driven by Amanda Joy Graham, 31, of Marne, IA, was northbound on 690th Street when the driver swerved to avoid a vehicle slowing to make a turn, causing the Tahoe to roll onto its passenger side. Graham and two passengers were taken by private vehicle to be checked for injuries. Damage to the Tahoe is estimated at $10,000. Graham was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

On September 26, 2014, as the result of a traffic stop, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tyson Hubbard, 33, of Omaha, on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The driver, 26-year-old Bradley Levi Petermann of Omaha, was charged with OWI 1st Offense and Driving Under Suspension. Both were taken to the Cass County Jail and released later that day on their own recognizances.

On September 26, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tyler Dean Gage, 28, of Des Moines, IA, on two District Court Warrants for Failure to Appear. Upon arrest, Gage attempted to smuggle a controlled substance into the jail and was subsequently charged with Possessing Contraband in a Jail. Gage is being held at the Cass County Jail on $15,000 bond.

On September 21, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Abdon Rodriguez, 46, of Des Moines, IA, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Rodriguez was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance.

On September 19, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tara Lynn Waters, 19, of Griswold, IA, on charges of OWI 1st Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Waters was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released the following day on her own recognizance.

On September 18, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amanda Fay Petrzilka, 29, of Council Bluffs, IA, on a charge of Driving While Revoked. Petrzilka was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released the following day on her own recognizance.

On September 17, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Carl Daniel Wiechmann, 45, of Griswold, IA, on a charge of Domestic Abuse 2nd Offense. Wiechmann was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on $2,000 bond.
Vehicle Accident
On September 13, 2014, at 9:21 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on Highway 6 at Lansing Road. A 2011 Freightliner straight truck driven by Tommy Jo Manheim, 33, of Bellevue, NE, was eastbound on Highway 6 when the vehicle lost control and overturned in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $7,000. Manheim was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

On September 15, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Russell Alan Shearer, 52, of Elliott, IA, on a charge of Driving Under Suspension. Shearer was taken to the Cass County Jail where he pled guilty later that day and was released.

On September 13, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryant Kenney Mitchell, 19, of Wiota, IA, on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mitchell was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on his own recognizance.

On September 9, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles Theodore Shroyer, 35, of Atlantic, on charges of Controlled Substance Violation and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; and Jessica Nichole Shroyer, 30, of Atlantic, on a charge of Controlled Substance Violation. Both were taken to the Cass County Jail where they were released later that day on $5,000 bond each.

On August 20, 2014, Joseph Allen Hoegh, 36, of Harlan, turned himself in at the Cass County Jail on a District Court warrant for Failure to Appear (Child Support). Hoegh was booked and released on $1000 bond.

On August 16, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mason Ross Crabbs, 18, of Earlham, IA, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Crabbs was also cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol. Crabbs was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on his own recognizance.
Vehicle Accident
On August 10, 2014, at 1:55 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident on I-80 westbound near the 54 mile marker. A 2001 Ford owned and driven by Gloria E. Brown, 70, of Doniphan, NE, was westbound on I-80 when the driver merged into the left lane, striking in the rear a 2011 Nissan Altima owned and driven by Roxanne Salsberry, 41, of Des Moines, IA, which in turn was pushed into the rear of a 2015 Subaru Forester driven by Linda K. Roskens, 67, of Chapman, KS. No injuries were reported. Damage to Brown’s vehicle is estimated at $200; damage to Salberry’s vehicle is estimated at $1,500; and damage to Roskens’ vehicle is estimated at $1,000. No citations were issued.

On August 14, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeffrey Curtis Roberts, 54, of Anita, IA, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Roberts was taken to the Cass County Jail where he is being held awaiting hearing before the Magistrate.

On August 13, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mark Daniel Dormer, 54, of Audubon, IA, on an Atlantic Police Department warrant for Fraudulent Practice 2nd Degree, Forgery, and Tampering with Records. Dormer was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on $9,000 bond.

On August 11, 2014, as the result of a traffic stop on I-80, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Saul Muro, 30, and Bianca Azucena Muro, 22, both of Los Angeles, CA, on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, No Drug Tax Stamp, and Prohibited Acts. Both were taken to the Cass County Jail where they remain held on $100,000 bond each.

On August 10, 2014, Nick Aaron Rush, 26, of Griswold, IA, turned himself in to the Cass County Jail on a Sheriff’s Office warrant for Possession with Intent to Deliver (Marijuana) and Sponsoring a Gathering. Rush was booked and released later that day on $5,000 bond.

On August 9, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shannen Taylor Tedford, 21, of Cumberland, IA, on a Sheriff’s Office warrant for Possession with Intent to Deliver (Marijuana) and Sponsoring a Gathering. Carrier was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released the following day on $5,000 bond.

On August 4, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Aaron Lee Ihnken, 27, of Atlantic, IA, on a Department of Corrections warrant for Parole Violation. Ihnken was also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, 3rd or Subsequent. Ihnken was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held without bond.

On July 28, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin Iglesias Cruz, 26, of Bellevue, NE, on a District Court warrant for Probation Violation. Cruz was taken to the Cass County Jail where he is being held on $10,000 bond.
Boil Advisory Public Notice
The Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator would like the public to be aware that a Boil Advisory has been issued for an area of SW Iowa that includes the towns of Bridgewater and Lyman until further notice. SIRWA (Southern Iowa Rural Water Assn) recommends boiling the water for one minute. The water may be used for bathing or similar purposes but needs to be boiled for food prep, drinking, etc. Pending results of tests that will be done Tuesday & Wednesday of this week, the advisory may possibly be lifted on Thursday a.m., August 7. Vehicle Accident
On July 30, 2014, at 8:20 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on 590th Street ¼ mile north of Yankton Road. A 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Taylor Michelle Watson, 20, of Griswold, was northbound on Yankton Road when the driver lost control and the vehicle entered the west ditch, striking a utility pole. Minor injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $5,000.

On July 26, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Roger Dwayne Vincent, Jr., 34, of Cumberland, IA, on a charge of Driving While Revoked. Vincent was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance.
Vehicle Accident
On June 27, 2014, at 6:45 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident on Hillcrest Drive in Anita. A 2002 Buick LeSabre owned and driven by Marcia Lynn Hockenberry, 62, of Anita, IA, was eastbound on Hillcrest Drive when the vehicle struck a parked 1990 Dodge pickup, owned by James Calvin Dory of Anita, with an attached H&H Trailer. No injuries were reported. Damage to Hockenberry’s vehicle is estimated at $3,000; damage to Dory’s pickup is estimated at $3000. The trailer sustained $100 damage.
Vehicle Accident
On June 27, 2014, at 3:00 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on 690th Street in Cass County. The reporting party stated an individual had come to their residence and reported that she had been in a wreck. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2001 Toyota Corolla driven by Vanessa Ranae Dugan Jones, 25, of Nodaway, IA, had been traveling northbound on 690th Street when the driver lost control, rolling the vehicle onto its top in the west ditch. Jones was transported to CCMH via Anita Rescue. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $6,000. The incident remains under investigation.
Public Notice of Scam
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to be aware of a scam that is circulating wherein someone calls the victim, claiming to be from a computer place, tells you there is something wrong with your computer, and asks you to log them on to fix it. Once you do that, the caller locks your computer and says you need to make a payment to them to unlock your computer. This is a scam! Do not allow individuals to log onto your computer unless you have sought them out for computer help yourself. If you receive a call like this, hang up.

On July 15, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Angela Renee Johnson, 47, of Cumberland, IA, on a charge of OWI 2nd Offense. Johnson was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released the following day on her own recognizance.

On July 13, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bradley Brent Perdue, 26, of Griswold, IA, on a charge of Public Intoxication. Perdue was taken to the Cass County Jail where he pled guilty and was released later that day.

On July 10, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amber Danielle Anderson, 24, of Avoca, IA, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Anderson was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released later that day on her own recognizance.
Vehicle Accident
On July 13, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident at Lake Anita State Park. A 2002 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Curtis Dow Baldwin, 41, of Anita, IA, lost control at the east park ranger entrance, entering the ditch and hitting several trees before coming to a stop. The driver and a passenger (who was also the owner of the vehicle), Ryan Lavin, 40, were transported to CCMH via Anita Fire and Rescue. Baldwin was cited for OWI 3rd Offense and Driving While Barred, and Lavin was cited for Permitting Unauthorized Person to Drive. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $5,000.

On July 8, 2014, as the result of a traffic stop on Highway 71 at Denver Road, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nathan Allen Johnson, 37, of Clarinda, IA, on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Johnson was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day.
Vehicle Accident and Arrest
On July 6, 2014, at 3:14 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident at Adams and 4th Streets in Cumberland. A 1995 Chevy pickup owned and driven by Roger Dwayne Vincent, Jr., was traveling southbound on Adams Street when the driver lost control and went into the ditch. Upon backing out of the ditch, the vehicle struck a legally parked 2013 Chevy Expedition owned by Atlantic Bottling Company. Damage to Vincent’s truck is estimated at $100; damage to the Expedition is estimated at $1500. Vincent was not injured. As a result of investigation, Vincent was arrested for OWI 2nd Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Vincent was also ticketed for Failure to Maintain Control. Vincent was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was later released on his own recognizance.

On July 3, 2014, at 11:30 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident at Richland Road and Main Street in Massena. Upon arrival, deputies found a 2002 Ford Escape in the ditch. The owner and driver, Michelle Lynn Namanny, 42, of Anita, was unharmed. Damage to Namanny’s vehicle is estimated at $4,000. Upon investigation, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Namanny on a charge of OWI 1st Offense, and she was also cited for Failure to Maintain Control. Namanny was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released the following day on her own recognizance.

On July 3, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brooklyn Rain Terry, 20, of Adair, IA, on a District Court warrant for Probation Violation. Terry was taken to the Cass County Jail where she remains held on $3000 bond.

On July 2, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Matthew A. Fraser, 30, of Omaha, NE, on Atlantic Police Department warrants for Forgery and Theft 5th Degree. Fraser was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance and held for Page County authorities on a Page County warrant.

On July 2, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office charged Brenda Jane Buboltz, 50, of Atlantic, IA, with Assault on a Peace Officer and Simple Assault. Buboltz had already been arrested by the Atlantic Police Department on charges of Public Intox 2nd Offense, Disorderly Conduct, and Simple Assault. Buboltz was released from the jail later that day on her own recognizance.

Reward for Information
The Cass County Cattlemen’s Association is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction regarding recent cattle thefts in the Cass County area. Sheriff McLaren has stated Cass County Crimestoppers will match the $500 for $1000 total reward. On June 22, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bradley Leo Ranney, 45, of Massena, IA, on a Sheriff’s Office warrant for Possession of Controlled Substance +5 grams (B Felony). Ranney was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on $5000 bond.

On June 22, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dennis Charles Bagshaw, 55, of Massena, IA, on a district court warrant for Probation Violation. Bagshaw was taken to the Cass County Jail where he is being held on $3000 bond.

On June 20, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amber Leigh Lind, 31, of Atlantic, IA, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Lind was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released the following day on her own recognizance.
Vehicle Accident
On June 19, 2014, at 2:04 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle semi rollover on I-80 westbound near the 65.90 mile marker. A 2014 Freightliner driven by Yousef Mohamed Elghoul, 33, of Dearborn, MI, had attempted to pull over to the side of the road but pulled over too far, causing the vehicle to roll over onto its side. No injuries were reported to the driver or a passenger. Elghoul was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

On June 17, 2014, at 2:05 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle stolen from 60379 Airport Road, Atlantic, IA. Several minutes later the Cass County Sheriff’s Office observed the vehicle traveling southwest on White Pole Road between Atlantic and Lewis. As the deputy initiated the stop, the driver of the vehicle attempted to elude the deputy, turning onto 585th Street northeast of Lewis. The driver continued north at a high rate of speed and missed the curve that turns 585th Street into Main Street in Lewis, IA, hitting a sign and rolling the vehicle 1 ½ times, and the vehicle came to rest in the field north of 582nd/Main Street. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means and transported to CCMH by Medivac. The driver was identified as Stefan Michael Greelis, 53, of Council Bluffs, IA, who had been released by order of the court earlier that day from the Cass County Jail. Pending charges upon Greelis are Theft 2nd Degree, Felony Eluding, Driving While Revoked, and Reckless Driving. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Atlantic Police Department, Lewis Fire Department, Lewis Rescue, and Griswold Rescue.

On June 18, 2014, at 2:37 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man stuck in a hay baler on 760th Street in Massena. Upon arrival at that location, Brian Larry Follmann, 40, of Massena, IA, was found to be deceased.
Charges Pending
On 6-13-14, Cass County Communications received a call reporting a female subject was in the roadway on foot on Victoria Road near 720th. A local resident had stopped to see if she needed help. She told him she needed to call 911. She then took the citizen's phone and would not give it back. She got in her vehicle and drove down the road. A member of the Massena fire department kept watch on the vehicle until law enforcement could arrive. A Cass County Deputy made contact with the female who was noncompliant. The driver of the vehicle then fled from the traffic stop which resulted in a vehicle pursuit. A Cass County dispatcher convinced the driver to stop the vehicle at Yankton and 710th St. Officers from the Atlantic Police Department, Montgomery County K9 unit, and Adams County arrived on scene. Officers were then able to break out a window of the vehicle to remove the driver. The driver was taken to CCMH for evaluation and charges of Eluding, theft and criminal mischief are pending at this time. Subject is Roxanna Hall, 46, of Omaha NE.

Please hang up on any such calls and contact your financial institution to verify everything is ok.

On June 6, 2014, at 7:46 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of weapons displayed at a fight in Lewis, IA. As a result of that call, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Craig Allen Griffin, 44, of Atlantic, IA, on charges of Going Armed with Intent and Carrying a Concealed Weapon; and Stanley Oral Rossell, 43, of Lewis, IA, on a charge of Going Armed with Intent. Both parties were taken to the Cass County Jail where Rossell was released later that day on $5000 bond and Griffin was released the following day on $7000 bond.

On June 4, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Russell Robinson, 24, of Massena, IA, on a charge of Violation of a No Contact Order. Robinson was taken to the Cass County Jail where he is being held awaiting hearing before the Magistrate.

On June 3, 2014, at 8:31 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident on Main Street in Massena. Farm equipment driven by Justin Wayne Masker, 31, of Atlantic, was northbound on Main Street in Massena when the driver struck a parked 2012 Ford Edge owned by Alan Kent Hartman of Cumberland. No injuries were reported. Damage to Hartman’s vehicle is estimated at $10,000; damage to the farm equipment is estimated at $700.

On May 29, 2014, at 11:51 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident on Poplar Street at 5th Street in Atlantic. A 2007 Toyota Corolla owned and driven by John Robert Lund, 29, of Atlantic, was northbound on Poplar when the driver slowed to turn left and his vehicle was passed on the left by a 2008 Hyundai owned and driven by Ray Martin Rasmussen, 74, of Walnut, IA. No injuries were reported. Damage to Lund’s vehicle is estimated at $2000; damage to Rasmussen’s vehicle is estimated at $4500.

On May 16, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at Boston Road and 650th Street. A 1999 Chevy Silverado driven by Dustin Owen Ferguson, 19, of Brayton, IA, attempted to cross 650th Street on Boston Road, and was struck by a southbound 2013 Toyota driven by M. Elaine Cook, 73, of Rhinelander, WI. No injuries were reported. Damage to Ferguson’s vehicle is estimated at $4,500; damage to Cook’s vehicle is estimated at $15,000. Ferguson was cited for Failure to Yield.

On May 16, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s office arrested Randy Travis Arbuckle, 24, of Walnut, IA, on an Atlantic Police Department warrant for Harassment 1st Degree. Arbuckle was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on $2000 bond.

On May 13, 2014, at 2:17 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a deceased person in a vehicle parked on Highway 92 (Richland Road) approximately ¼ mile west of 710th Street near Cumberland. Upon arrival, a male was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The male was later identified as Gregory Lloyd Blunt, 46, of Johnston, IA. The incident remains under investigation. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Cumberland Fire Department, Massena Fire Department, and Atlantic Medivac.

On April 21, 2014, as a result of a traffic stop on I-80, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Zachary Allen Bushong, 21, of Hamlet, Indiana; Jason Robert Bazemore, 21, of LaPorte, Indiana; and Shane Matthew Reiter, 21, of South Bend, Indiana. Bushong and Bazemore were each charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, Prohibited Acts, and Interference with Official Acts. Reiter was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, and Prohibited Acts. All three were taken to the Cass County Jail where Bushong and Reiter were released on $5000 bond; Bazemore is currently being held on $12,000 bond.

A 2001 Chevy Impala driven by Michael J. Schrader, 25, of Lincoln, NE, was driving southbound on White Pole Road when the driver swerved to avoid an animal, causing the vehicle to cross the center line and enter the east ditch and roll onto its top. The driver was transported to CCMH via Medivac. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3500.

On April 4, 2014, at approximately 3:18 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a jackknifed semi on I-80 westbound at the 72 mile marker. A 2013 Kenworth driven by Thomas Batie Heathcote, 57, of Des Moines, IA, was westbound on I-80 when the vehicle came to an icy overpass and lost control. For a time, the rear of the tractor blocked the left lane and part of the right lane of westbound interstate traffic. No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $6000.

On March 29, 2014, at 11:40 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on 570th Street in Cass County. A 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Austin Michael Oldenkamp, 18, of Griswold, IA, was northbound on 570th Street when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the west ditch, rolling twice and landing on its wheels. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $7000. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. No passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Once at the jail, Cook was additionally charged with Possession of Electronic Contraband. Cook was booked at the Cass County Jail and released the following day on her own recognizance.

Both subjects were taken to the Cass County Jail where Redler is being held on $17,300 bond and Hargens is being held on $14,000 bond as well as a hold for Shelby County.

The vehicle rolled once into the east ditch and landed on its wheels. No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $7,000. Behnken was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

A 2005 Jaguar owned and driven by Bryson Thomas West, 19, of Atlantic, IA, was eastbound on White Pole Road when the car hit a large snow drift in the road and lost control, running through a fence. West was transported to CCMH via Medivac. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3,500; damage to the fence is estimated at $500.

Vehicle Accident
On February 17, 2014, at 4:52 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle accident on Highway 71 at Lansing Road in Cass County. A 2001 Jeep Wrangler owned and driven by Myles Jeffery Hetrick, 23, of Atlantic, IA, was southbound on Highway 71 and attempting to turn onto Lansing Road when it was struck in the rear by a 2006 Dodge pickup driven by Robert Lee Jacobson, 59, of Fontanelle. No injuries were reported. Damage to Hetrick’s vehicle is estimated at $7,000; damage to Jacobson’s vehicle is estimated at $6,000. Jacobson was cited with Failure to Stop within Assured Clear Distance.

Mesler and Fielder were taken to the Cass County Jail where both were released later that day – Mesler on $2000 bond and Fielder on $3000 bond.

On February 11, 2014, at 1:40 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident on 550th Street six miles north of Griswold. A 1994 Nissan Maxima owned and driven by Brenda Lee Seymour, 47, of Atlantic, IA, was turning left into a drive on 550th Street when it was struck by a 2003 Dodge Neon driven by Cindy Daline Guffey, 17, of Elliott, IA, which had attempted to pass on the left side of Seymour’s vehicle. Damage to Seymour’s vehicle is estimated at $900; damage to Guffey’s vehicle is estimated at $900. No injuries were reported. Guffey was cited for Passing Contrary to Highway Markings.

On February 8, 2014, at 9:10 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one-vehicle weather-related accident near Olive Street and Echo Road in Cass County. A 2009 Nissan Altima owned and driven by Diane Marie Nosbisch, 55, of Menlo, IA, was northbound on Olive Street when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered roadway and entered the west ditch. The driver reported minor injuries. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $4500.

On February 2, 2014, at 4:00 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on 4th Street in Marne. A 2006 Cadillac driven by Zachary Taylor Hemmingsen was southbound on 4th Street when the vehicle struck a guardrail, causing the guardrail to move into the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Hemmingsen’s vehicle is estimated at $3500; damage to the guardrail is estimated at $2000. Hemmingsen was cited with Failure to Maintain Control.
Investigation - Burglaries
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports that on February 7th/8th, 2014, subject(s) unknown entered the outer door of the Anita Laundromat and Carwash and attempted to pry the interior door open as well as the dollar bill change machine, causing about $1300 in damages. On January 22nd/23rd, 2014, a burglary was also attempted at this location which caused about $300 damage. Recovered Vehicle
On January 28, 2014, at 9:12 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle stolen from the parking lot of CAM High School in Anita. The vehicle, a 1998 Ford Escort owned by April Annette McAfee, 39, of Anita, was recovered this morning in a ditch near 640th and Fayette Road in Cass County. There are no suspects in this incident at this time.

Vehicle Accident
On January 23, 2014, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident near the Audubon/Cass County line in Cass County. A 2000 Dodge driven by Timothy Orville Welch, 36, of Red Oak, IA, was westbound on 350th Street/Akron Road when the driver ran a stop sign and swerved to avoid the tree in the middle of the road at that location. The vehicle rolled onto its side in the west ditch of 710th Street. A female passenger, Louisa Fay Homan, 31, of Red Oak, was transported to Cass County Memorial Hospital via Anita Rescue. Three children in the vehicle were uninjured. As a result of the investigation, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested Welch on charges of OWI 3rd Offense (D Felony), three counts of Child Endangerment (Aggravated), Driving While Barred (Aggravated), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Serious), and Driving While Revoked (Serious). Welch was also cited for Failure to Obey Stop Sign, No Proof of Insurance, and Failure to Maintain Control. He was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains on $14,000 bond.

On January 19, 2014, at 12:06 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported a one-vehicle accident on Highway 48 at 550th Street. A 2007 Ford Explorer owned and driven by Becky Jo Brockman, 39, of Elliott, IA, was found in a ditch along Highway 48 by a patrolling deputy. The driver was uninjured. Upon investigation, the driver was arrested for OWI and cited for Failure to Maintain Control. Brockman was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was released later that day on her own recognizance. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $5,000.
Vehicle Accident
On January 18, 2014, at 1:10 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle accident on Buck Creek Road at Glacier Road. A 1993 Buick LeSabre driven by Daniel Robert Schmeling, 19, of Atlantic, IA, was northbound on Buck Creek Road when the driver lost control and the vehicle entered the west ditch, rolling onto its top. Schmeling and one passenger, Skylar Richard-Curtis Breeling, 18, of Atlantic, were able to climb out a vehicle window. A second passenger, Jesse Keegen Ihrke, 14, of Atlantic, was partially ejected from the vehicle. The driver refused medical treatment; both Breeling and Ihrke were transferred to CCMH via Medivac, and Ihrke was subsequently transferred to University of Nebraska Medical Center. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3,500. The incident remains under investigation.

Edwards was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance.
Investigation - Burglaries
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the report of two church burglaries that occurred in rural Griswold. Sometime between January 6th and January 9th, person(s) unknown entered the Noble Center United Methodist Church at 630th and Victoria Roads in Griswold by prying the lock from the back door. Missing items were not initially reported. Also, between January 7th and January 8th, person(s) unknown entered the St John’s United Church of Christ on Upland Road in Griswold and took a small amount of cash and a Keurig coffee maker and coffee pods. Page County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have also each reported several church break-ins in their counties in and around this time period. On January 14, 2014, at 7:23 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on 620th Street at the intersection of Memphis Road. A 2002 Olds Alero driven by Chelsea Leeann Adams, 16, of Atlantic, IA, was northbound on 620th when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it entered the east ditch, rolling several times and ejecting the driver. The driver was transported to CCMH via Medivac and subsequently taken to University of Nebraska Medical Center. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3500. The accident remains under investigation.

A 1998 Dodge Dakota owned and driven by Austin Leroy Petty, 18, of Atlantic, was discovered upside down in the west ditch. The driver refused medical treatment. Upon investigation into the accident, the Sheriff’s Office arrested Petty on charges of OWI 1st Offense and Minor in Possession of Alcohol. Petty was also cited for Failure to Maintain Control. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $3500.
